Survey on public and private provision of social services – Social services provided by the non-profit sector

14.02.2024 – Today the INAPP survey “Social services provided by non-profit organisations” launched its fifth iteration, as part of the Survey on the public and private provision of social services.

The subjects of the study are the non-profit organisations which are among the main providers of social support services. The sector encompasses approximately 63,800 organisations surveyed by the ISTAT Statistical Register of Non-Profit Institutions categorised under the following Ateco sectors: “Social Assistance and Civil Protection”, “Health”, “Education and Research”, “Economic Development and Social Cohesion”.

The social services covered by the survey refer to those included in the Nomenclator of Social Interventions and Services, and are grouped into nine macro-areas. The study surveys up to the most basic level of service provision and explores several dimensions included in the macro-areas.

The main objective of the survey is to reconstruct the structures and dynamics of the social services system through the study of the structural, organisational and functional characteristics of service providers.

The survey explores a number of dimensions such as: structural aspects of the organisation, human resources employed, connection with the territory, relations with users, governance of the organisation, economic and financial resources, innovation processes.

The field phase involves, through an online questionnaire, a sample of about 7,500 non-profit organisations and is conducted entirely in-house by Inapp.

As in previous editions, the Inapp survey leverages the existing collaboration with ISTAT (Census of Non-Profit Institutions), within the framework of a memorandum of understanding with Inapp. The 2024 edition also sees the participation of a panel of stakeholders from the non-profit sector.
